This English edition is a translation of the schema poster. The poster brings all schemas together in a single overview, grouped by core emotional need and colour-coded, so you can see at a glance which schemas belong to which need.
The poster follows the overview of the Dutch Association for Schema Therapy, supplemented with the newer schemas based on research by Arntz and colleagues (2021): Lack of Coherent Identity, Lack of a Comprehensible World, and Injustice. Want to know more about schemas and schema therapy? The knowledge hub has an in-depth article on it, currently still in Dutch.
Schemas per core emotional need:
Connection and Safety: Social Isolation, Abandonment, Emotional Deprivation, Abuse/Mistrust, Defectiveness/Shame
Autonomy: Failure, Enmeshment, Dependence, Vulnerability to Harm or Illness
Self-expression: Approval-Seeking, Self-Sacrifice, Subjugation
Spontaneity and Play: Punitiveness, Negativity/Pessimism, Unrelenting Standards, Emotional Inhibition
Realistic Limits: Insufficient Self-Control, Entitlement
Self-coherence: Lack of Coherent Identity, Lack of a Comprehensible World
Justice: Injustice
Which format suits you?
The A3 talking card (297 × 420 mm) is printed on 300 gsm synthetic paper with a double-sided matte laminate. Sturdier than the A2 poster, and resistant to lots of handling and grubby fingers. Great for picking up and using together in session.
The A2 poster (420 × 594 mm) is printed on 200 gsm paper with a thin matte laminate. Ideal for hanging on the wall of a consulting room or group space.
Skin tone options
You can choose between a lighter or darker skin tone for the figures. Please indicate your preference in the options.
Ordering more than one? If you'd like both A3 talking card of the A2 poster, you'll get a small discount. Also interested in the card set? The complete Schema Therapy bundle works out even better value.
In the photos, the prints are shown in a frame for a nicer image: the frame is not included as standard with a print, poster, or talking card. On request I do have frames in stock in dark and light wood, but shipping them is a challenge in itself given how most courier services work. Would you like to order a frame? Drop me an email, especially if you live or work nearby. You can also search for a frame in the right size yourself, online or at a (picture framing) shop. Do pay attention to the exact dimensions: an A3 poster is 29.7 × 42 cm, for example, while standard frames are often slightly different, such as 30 × 40 cm, which means it won't quite fit.
