What does Kenschetser mean?
The name comes from the Dutch verb kenschetsen. According to the Van Dale dictionary, it means: 1) to give a description of someone or something, and 2) to characterise, to define. The word is also used to mean: to illustrate, to distinguish, and to draw. Which is exactly what I do!
How are the products made?
When I notice something missing in my work as a psychologist and can't find it elsewhere, I explore whether I can make it myself, though my head usually has more ideas than I have time to work out. When I want to create something new, I start by immersing myself in scientific sources and books to build a solid foundation. I then work out the content in accessible language and draw all the illustrations myself on my iPad. Sometimes I work alone; sometimes I bounce ideas off others or collaborate more closely to make the products even better. The attachment booklet, for example, was made together with Patrick, and the AMPS guide together with Han Berghuis. My dear friends Jikkina and Hans, both clinical psychologists, often read along in the background to check that everything is accurate and clear. Allard, my partner and not a psychologist, reads everything to check that it's understandable for non-psychologists too, and proofreads the spelling. The products are printed locally in the Netherlands in small batches and sold exclusively through this webshop.
A product is listed as sold out, can I still order it?
Yes, you can! The delivery time will be a little longer, as it will need to be reprinted. Delivery times vary by product: a poster usually takes around two weeks, a card set around four weeks. You can simply place your order by ignoring the 'sold out' label and adding the product to your cart. Feel free to send a message if you have any questions about this.
I've spotted a mistake in one of the products, can I report it?
Please do! Every product is made with great care and attention, but we're only human. If you spot a typo from this dyslexic or any other error, let me know at info@kenschetser.nl and I'll correct it for the next print run.
Ja natuurlijk, dat lijkt me hartstikke leuk!
Can I pay by invoice?
Yes, absolutely. Simply place your order through the webshop and select 'pay by invoice' at checkout. We'll pack your order straight away, and you'll receive an invoice by email that can be paid within 30 days, or passed on to the finance department of your organisation.
What if I order multiple products with different delivery times?
Your parcel will generally be shipped once it's complete. If you order posters alongside a card set that's being reprinted, you'll receive the whole order within the delivery time of the card set. If you'd prefer to receive something sooner, you can place two separate orders, though please note that you'll pay shipping costs twice.
What are the shipping costs?
As a small independent business, I'm unfortunately not able to offer free shipping. Shipping is never truly free, someone always pays for it. I personally pay just over €7 per parcel in shipping costs within the Netherlands, excluding VAT. For orders within the Netherlands, you contribute €6.50 including VAT. Ordering just a card or something that fits in an envelope? Then shipping costs €2.50. Shipping costs to other countries depend on the destination, you'll see the exact costs at checkout before confirming your order.
How long will my order take?
I do my best to ship orders as quickly as possible. I don't have any staff, I pack everything myself, alongside my work as a psychologist. That, combined with the unpredictability of courier services, makes it hard to make firm promises. If everything is in stock, you can generally expect your order to be shipped within 5 working days. Stock availability is shown in the product overview. Things usually move faster than that, but I'd rather you be pleasantly surprised by an early delivery than disappointed by a late one.
When products are out of stock, they are reprinted before being shipped. I deliberately print in small batches, it's more sustainable and something I can finance myself. If you need a large quantity, I likely won't have it in stock and you may need to wait a little longer. Feel free to get in touch at info@kenschetser.nl if you have any questions.
Orders are generally shipped via PostNL. You'll receive a track & trace link by email as soon as your parcel is on its way. Posters are shipped in a rectangular tube, as PostNL charges a significant surcharge for round packaging.
Can I return my order?
I do my best to photograph and describe the products as accurately as possible, so you know exactly what you're getting. If something doesn't meet your expectations, that's a shame, but of course it can happen. You can return the product in good condition within 14 days of receipt, preferably in the original packaging. Return shipping costs are at your own expense. Returning it in person to our home in Drenthe is also possible, just drop us an email first to arrange it.
To arrange a return, please email info@kenschetser.nl with your name, address, order number, bank account number for the refund, and, if you'd like, the reason for your return. You'll receive a confirmation with the return address within 3 working days. The purchase amount will be refunded within 14 days of receiving the returned products.
Can I order from outside the Netherlands?
Yes! Orders from Belgium are very welcome through the webshop. Based somewhere else? Send us an email and we'll see what's possible. If you're ordering as a business from outside the Netherlands, please make sure to fill in your VAT number correctly, the webshop will then automatically apply VAT reverse charge.
How do you approach sustainability?
Sustainability matters to us. Orders are packed in the smallest possible boxes to reduce transport space. Our main printer is ISO 14001 certified, and the paper and packaging materials, including the coloured bags, are FSC certified. The glue on the heart stickers is water-based, the tins are made of recyclable aluminium, the tote bags are made of Fair Trade organic cotton, and the clothing we use for promotion is made from organic cotton and recycled plastic bottles. We print in small batches so that nothing needs to be thrown away. And unlike large publishers, we print locally in the Netherlands rather than in distant countries like India, which significantly reduces transport emissions.
Am I allowed to use the illustrations for my department, leaflet, or website?
All illustrations are protected by copyright. Each drawing represents a great deal of time, care, and love, and I ask you to respect that. This means you may not copy, scan, or otherwise distribute the illustrations without my written permission. It also means that if you've purchased a product, you're of course welcome to use your own copy, but not to scan it, distribute it, or hang copies in colleagues' rooms without them having their own. Would you like to use the illustrations? Get in touch at info@kenschetser.nl or via the contact form, and we'll look at what's possible together.
I'd love to collaborate, how do I get in touch?
Great to hear! Send a message to info@kenschetser.nl or use the contact form, and I'll get back to you to explore what we might be able to do together.
What is your educational background?
I'm a clinical psychologist and psychotherapist. I studied psychology at the University of Groningen, where I completed both my bachelor's degree and my clinical master's. After working as a basic psychologist in older adult psychiatry, I began my training as a healthcare psychologist, working across a range of settings with very different client groups, from primary to specialist mental healthcare. That was followed by a four-year specialist training programme to become a clinical psychologist-psychotherapist, with further deepening in assessment, treatment, scientific research, and management. I recently completed that training, with a very full head and a great many new insights.
The drawing I taught myself. Self-taught, in other words. Partly thanks to my dyslexia, I naturally think in images and prefer working with diagrams and visual overviews rather than dense blocks of complex text. What I long saw as a weakness turned out to be exactly the strength that Kenschetser is built on.
Can I come to you for treatment?
This website is intended solely as a webshop for the illustrations I create, and as a source of information about the products. You cannot enter into treatment with me through this website.
